about

Back once again with Articulate, almost 2 years on from his first ever release with the brand and more recently his critically-acclaimed EP “Tektonix”, Daze Prism is back with his phenomenal single and remix package “2005”. With his extensive and hugely desirable sound design and musicality on display for all to see, there are not many in the scene that can intwine quality with quantity, something Daze epitomises. His latest installment “2005” encompasses a refreshing and inventive original and VIP of the title track along with 3 diverse remixes spanning the likes of Breakbeat, UK Funky and UK Bass from names new and old.

The title and lead track “2005”, simply put, is the quintessence of bass music. Subtle reeses and skippy breaks and hats get the track moving before a summery, feel-good hook to die for joins in to fit perfectly into the arrangement before dropping the bomb on us with huge trance-esque reeses, skitty hats, spaced out vocals, impeccable riffs and chord progressions and a hugely appreciable, flowing melodiousness.

UK Funky ones to watch, Co-owner of Articulate “Ali McK” & fellow Articulate don “IYZ” step up for a Funky take on the original. “Ali McK & IYZ” keep the feel of the track perfectly before making it their own and implementing big samba hits, UK Funky percussion and a big fm bassline before bringing in a captivating, trippy flute to bring out those carnival vibes.

The Punks and breakbeat veteran “Nixon” comes on board and delivers exactly what you would expect from the legend himself. His variation of “2005” brings classic breakbeat rolling drums, a big, dark gritty reese bassline and perfectly entwines them with rhodes keys and the flawless riff to take on a more melodic approach.

The final remix comes from Articulates own “Nuaura”, two producers from Manchester who are ready to set the scene alight. With a forthcoming EP on Articulate, and a free EP already out under the old alias of “Undefined”, their remix showcases exactly what they intend to do. “Nuaura” begin with switched up chord variations, big horns, chopped up vocals and huge reese's giving an absolutely epic breakdown, before releasing havoc with wonky bass stabs, grime-influenced drums and huge dark reeses.

For the final track, “Daze Prism” does his own variation in production and completely flips the track for a new one, bringing a dark intro with transposed vocals and garage-influenced drums before going deep and spacey with reverby, chopped up vocals leading up to a stompy drop, mixing up elements of breaks and ukg with ridiculous levels of sound design, something Daze has clearly an abundance of.
